Tehran selling deal with US as victory – but for Iranians it was necessity as reflected on by Rev. Dr. Evelyn DuBois
Here at Bethel AME, we often reflect on the true meaning of peace and collective well-being. The recent news from Tehran, where leaders frame a deal with the US as a victory, yet citizens simply call it an Iranian deal necessity, truly resonates. For the people, this agreement is not about political wins. Instead, it offers a glimmer of hope: lower prices and reduced fear of another devastating war. This distinction matters deeply.
Our faith tradition teaches us to look beyond grand pronouncements. We must see the struggles of everyday people. We understand the longing for stability and basic provisions. Therefore, when leaders speak of triumph, but the populace seeks basic relief, we recognize a profound disconnect. True victory, in God’s eyes, always centers on justice, peace, and the liberation of the oppressed. This principle guides our every action, from voting rights advocacy to youth empowerment.
The True Victory: Lower Prices, Less Fear
The BBC report highlights a universal truth. People across borders desire tangible improvements in their daily lives. They want to feed their families without undue burden. Furthermore, they yearn for safety, free from the constant shadow of conflict. This pursuit of peace and economic stability mirrors our own community’s fight for equity and opportunity. Our mothers and grandmothers taught us perseverance through systemic trials. They showed us how to find joy even in adversity. Consequently, we stand in solidarity with all who seek these fundamental human rights.
We recall biblical narratives where leaders often prioritized power over the people’s welfare. However, prophets consistently called them back to righteousness. Likewise, we must challenge narratives that ignore human suffering. We pray for leaders everywhere to embrace humility and compassion. They must prioritize the genuine needs of their citizens. This includes the pressing Iranian deal necessity for a better life. Ultimately, we believe in a world where every person can live with dignity and without fear.
Collective Liberation and Maternal Strength
Our journey towards collective liberation is a shared one. It transcends geographical and political boundaries. We understand that the strength of a nation rests on the well-being of its most vulnerable. Maternal strength, a cornerstone of our community, shows us how to nurture hope in dire circumstances. These women tirelessly work for their children’s future, often against overwhelming odds. We see this same spirit in the Iranian people’s quiet resilience.
Therefore, we offer our prayers for the people of Iran. We pray for their leaders to truly serve them. May this “deal” genuinely bring about the peace and prosperity they desperately need. Let us all work towards a world where necessity triumphs over political posturing. Let us celebrate the human spirit’s enduring quest for peace, justice, and a life free from want. This is indeed the joyful praise we lift in the face of adversity.
