Why food fraud persists, even with improving tech as reflected on by Dastur Cyrus Jamshidi
The recent BBC Technology report highlights a disturbing reality: despite advanced solutions, food fraud persists. This ongoing struggle against deceit in our food supply truly reflects a deeper spiritual battle, one we Zoroastrians have recognized for millennia. We understand the importance of truth, known as Asha, in all aspects of life, including our daily sustenance. Therefore, the very act of adulterating food directly violates Asha, embodying the falsehood of Druj.
Our Asho Farohar Center here in this vibrant maritime metropolis constantly emphasizes honesty in commerce. Our ancient teachings guide us. They instruct us to uphold integrity in every transaction. Furthermore, pure food nourishes both body and spirit. Consequently, those who engage in food fraud not only deceive consumers but also defile the sacred trust inherent in providing sustenance. Their actions sow seeds of distrust throughout the global marketplace.
The Battle Against Food Fraud Persists
Technology offers powerful tools for detection. However, technology alone cannot eradicate the root cause of deceit. The persistence of food fraud ultimately stems from a moral failing. It arises from the choices individuals make. They prioritize illicit gain over ethical conduct. We teach that every person possesses the ability to choose between Asha and Druj, between truth and falsehood. This choice shapes our world. Therefore, the fight against food fraud requires more than just better sensors; it demands a renewed commitment to personal integrity.
Our tradition greatly values ecological stewardship. We believe in the purity of air and water. This belief naturally extends to the purity of our food. When producers adulterate food, they betray this sacred trust. They disrupt the natural order. Furthermore, they harm the health and well-being of countless individuals. We must remember that true prosperity comes from righteous living, not from dishonest profit.
Upholding Asha in Commerce
The triumph of light over falsehood remains a central tenet of our faith. We believe that ultimately Asha will prevail. Therefore, we must actively champion truth and transparency in all commercial dealings. We urge businesses to adopt ethical practices. We also encourage consumers to demand accountability. Each honest choice contributes to a brighter future. Let us collectively strive for a world where food fraud finds no place, where integrity guides every hand, and where truth illuminates every transaction.
