News Corp Australia chair says social media platforms are ‘true monsters’ and ‘torment our children’ as reflected on by Pastor Marcus Sterling
Brothers and sisters, we face challenging times. Michael Miller, News Corp Australia chair, recently called social media platforms “true monsters” that “torment our children.” This strong language reflects a growing unease many of us feel. We observe the profound impact these digital spaces have on our families and communities daily. Consequently, we must approach this issue with spiritual discernment and practical wisdom.
Confronting Social Media Monsters
The Bible warns us about the deceitfulness of the world. Therefore, when Mr. Miller speaks of “misinformation, disinformation [and] the rabbit holes” on social media, he describes a spiritual reality. These platforms often present a distorted view of truth, pulling people into echo chambers of false narratives. We know Satan is the father of lies. He uses any medium available to sow discord and confusion among us. Parents, we must actively protect our children from these digital snares.
Guarding Our Hearts and Homes
Our call as believers is to guard our hearts and minds. We must teach our children biblical truth, equipping them to discern falsehood. Furthermore, we must model responsible engagement with technology. We cannot simply ban these platforms; instead, we must teach discernment and wisdom. We encourage open family dialogue about online content, building strong foundations at home. Crossroads Bible Fellowship believes strongly in fostering environments where truth thrives and young minds develop moral courage.
Finally, we must remember our entrepreneurial ethics. Companies seeking content for free raise questions about fair stewardship and value. We teach our members to act with integrity in all their dealings, online and off. Ultimately, we pray for leaders in media and technology to seek righteousness and protect the vulnerable. We actively shape a culture of truth, integrity, and grace in this digital age, confronting these social media monsters with God’s word.
