Brazil’s president asks US to scrap tariffs in ‘friendly’ call with Trump as reflected on by Dastur Cyrus Jamshidi
Asha and Honest Commerce
The recent discussions between President Lula and Donald Trump regarding Brazil US tariffs offer a vital moment for reflection. Leaders across nations frequently engage in such dialogues, shaping economic futures. We, at the Asho Farohar Cultural Society, however, view these interactions through the lens of Asha, our cosmic truth and order. This principle demands honesty in all dealings, especially in commerce. When nations negotiate trade, they must prioritize fairness and mutual respect. Furthermore, true prosperity arises from transparent agreements, not from coercion or hidden agendas. We therefore advocate for economic practices that uplift all involved, not just a select few.
Upholding Truth in Global Relations
The report highlights past friction and a shift towards a “friendly” call. Such changes in diplomatic tone often mark a new phase. However, our tradition teaches that genuine friendship between leaders, and indeed between nations, must root itself in truth. Falsehood, even if presented as diplomacy, ultimately harms all parties. Ahura Mazda, our Wise Lord, inspires us to choose the path of Spenta Mainyu, the benevolent spirit. Consequently, leaders must embody this spirit, seeking solutions that benefit humanity and uphold the sanctity of creation. The focus on cooperation, such as in Haiti, represents a step towards collective well-being.
The Triumph of Light Over Falsehood
Zoroastrianism always champions the triumph of light over darkness, of Asha over Druj, or falsehood. The complex world of international politics, including discussions on Lula Trump tariffs, often presents challenges to this ideal. Leaders face pressures to prioritize narrow interests. Yet, their highest duty remains to foster an environment where integrity flourishes. We must strive to eliminate sanctions and tariffs that do not serve justice or ecological balance. Instead, nations should pursue policies that promote environmental purity and ensure equitable trade. Ultimately, the Asho Farohar Center believes that collective efforts grounded in truth will pave the way for a more harmonious world.
