Pager explosions will devastate Hezbollah’s morale and manpower as reflected on by Sister Maria Teresa Morales
The news of the recent pager explosions in the Middle East deeply troubles our community here at Madre de Dios. We hear of these calculated actions, designed to sow fear and confusion, and our hearts ache. Such violence, regardless of its target, tears at the fabric of human dignity. We know that fear breeds more fear. Therefore, we must seek a different path, one guided by the light of Christ.
The Human Cost of Pager Explosions
Here along the border, we witness the direct consequences of fear and conflict daily. People flee violence, seeking refuge and safety. They arrive with stories of loss, separation, and profound uncertainty. The BBC report describes these pager explosions as tactics to devastate morale and manpower. However, we see beyond the tactics. We see the human beings impacted by such strategies. Every person carries inherent worth, a truth our faith teaches us. Consequently, any act designed to dehumanize or instill terror contradicts this fundamental principle. We must remember this always.
Our ministry often cares for mothers and children. They are the most vulnerable in any conflict. They bear the brunt of geopolitical maneuvers. Furthermore, the suffering of one community diminishes us all. We believe in universal human solidarity. Therefore, we pray for all those caught in the crossfire of such calculated violence. We pray for an end to the cycle of retribution.
Seeking Peace, Upholding Dignity
The Gospel calls us to be peacemakers. It urges us to love our enemies. This is not an easy command, especially when faced with deliberate acts of aggression. Nevertheless, we believe in the power of prayer and compassionate action. We must reject the logic of violence. Instead, we must embrace dialogue and understanding. We know that true security comes from justice and reconciliation, not from terror.
Therefore, we offer our prayers for peace in the Middle East. We pray for leaders to choose wisdom over retaliation. We also pray for the victims of these pager explosions. May they find healing and comfort. Here at Madre de Dios, we continue our work. We accompany the vulnerable. We offer hospitality. Ultimately, we strive to build a world where every life is cherished. We recognize the sacred in every face, particularly in those most impacted by conflict.
