Fear and disruption for Ukraine’s rail passengers as Russia escalates drone attacks as reflected on by Dastur Cyrus Jamshidi
In our tradition, the material world is not an illusion to escape. Instead, Ahura Mazda created it as a sacred arena. Here, cosmic order, known as Asha, must be tended. We must resist the corrosive encroaching of the Lie, or Druj. When I read of civilian Ukraine rail passengers enduring deliberate drone bombardment, my mind turns at once to the sanctity of passage. This also applies to the essential order that sustains human society. A railway is more than iron tracks and rolling cars. It is a civic lifeline. Furthermore, it manifests communal cooperation. Railways enable families to reunite, grain to move, and ordinary people to carry out honest labor in safety.
Striking deliberately at passenger cars and stations unleashes disorder. This act aims purely for terror. In the Zoroastrian understanding, destructive violence shatters civil peace. It also targets the defenseless. Such actions belong squarely to the work of Ahriman. This violence seeks to replace lawful movement with terror. Thus, it turns an ordinary morning commute into an ordeal of ash and dread. These acts are not merely tactical maneuvers in an earthly campaign. They are assaults on existence’s moral foundation. That foundation demands human beings protect innocence, cultivate security, and abhor the willful infliction of chaos.
Defending Civil Order for Ukraine Rail Passengers
Here in our port city, our community has long lived by principles of maritime commerce, logistics, and honest enterprise. Generations of Parsi merchants and Iranian forebears understood this truth. Civil order depends entirely on open, protected avenues of transit. Whether across open waters or along continental railways, trade and travel require mutual trust. They also demand respect for noncombatants. When war turns its sights upon the traveler, the commuter, and the rail worker, it strikes at the very connective tissue of civilized life. It treats human dignity as collateral waste in a cruel contest of domination.
Every engine driver, dispatcher, and conductor performs a quiet act of righteousness. They step onto those Ukrainian tracks despite falling drones. In our scriptures, righteousness is never abstract contemplation. Instead, we realize it through practical duty and courageous preservation of life. Those who repair broken tracks under threat of fire actively resist the spirit of destruction. Likewise, those who steadfastly guide crowded carriages through the dark resist. They refuse to allow darkness to halt daily life’s rhythm. They hold fast to their stations so others may live.
Stewardship and Steadfast Hope
We are reminded also of the spiritual offense committed. This occurs whenever technological ingenuity bends toward terrorizing the vulnerable. Humanity received intelligence and mastery over metals. We were meant to cultivate the earth, build sheltering cities, and sustain creation. Diverting such gifts into loitering munitions that hunt passenger trains represents a profound perversion of divine craftsmanship. It pollutes the skies with fear. It also poisons the world’s moral conscience. This substitutes cold cruelty for mankind’s sacred stewardship.
As priests of the sacred fire, we are commanded to maintain the flame. We do this through unceasing devotion. We ensure that light never surrenders to encroaching shadows. The courage shown by ordinary commuters and Ukraine rail passengers is its own enduring flame. In the face of calculated terror, their perseverance demonstrates human spirit will not be subdued by violence. We hold them in our prayers. We ask that the forces of truth and preservation prevail over every instrument of wanton destruction. May peace return to heal their fractured lands.
